Lyrical Inspiration from The Zac Brown Band
This Sunday, I'm heading to Hershey, PA to see the Zac Brown Band perform for the 4th time. Before I first saw them at Preakness in 2010, I had no interest in country music, but that changed after seeing them perform. They put on an incredible show and their songs are chock full of great lyrics and some good life advice. I thought I'd put together a list of my favorite lyrics from some of their best songs, maybe some of them will hit home for you too.
Chicken Fried
And it's funny how it's the little things in life that mean the most
Not where you live, what you drive or the price tag on your clothes
There's no dollar sign on peace of mind, this I've come to know
Let it Go
You keep your heart above your head and your eyes wide open
So this world can't find a way to leave you cold
And know you're not the only ship out on the ocean
Save your strength for things that you can change
Forgive the ones you can't
You gotta let 'em go
Homegrown
I've got everything I need and nothin' that I don't
No Hurry
I'd be a fool now to worry
About all those things I can't change
And the time that I borrow
Can wait till tomorrow
'Cause I ain't in no hurry today
Day that I die
On the day that I die,
I wanna say that I,
Was a man who really lived and never compromised.
And when I've lived out my days,
Until the very end,
I hope they find me in my home, a guitar in my hands.
Remedy
Jesus preached the golden rule
Buddha taught it too
Gandhi said eye for an eye
Makes the whole world go blind
With a little understanding
We can break these chains that we've been handed
I've got the medication
Love is the remedy
We're all in this world together
Life's a gift that we have to treasure
Happiness, now that is the measure
Tomorrow Never Comes
I've been trying to open my eyes
Take it all in as the world passes by
Getting lost in the twists and the turns
Finding these questions inside me still burn
I'm gonna live like tomorrow never comes
There's no end in sight, tonight we black out the sun
Better hold on tight, before you know it's gone
And live like tomorrow never comes
Quiet your Mind
I hear the waves
Sun beatin' down on my shoulders
It's a near-perfect day
Wishin' I wouldn't get any older
They say that it's gone 'fore you know it now
Quiet your mind
Soak it all in
It's a game you can't win
Enjoy the ride
My Old Man
He was a giant
And I was just a kid
I was always trying
To do everything he did
I can still remember every lesson he taught me
Growing up learning how to be like my old man
Now I'm a giant
Got a son of my own
He's always trying
To go everywhere I go
Do the best I can to raise him up the right way
Hoping that he someday wants to be
Like his old man
Knee Deep
Mind on a permanent vacation
The ocean is my only medication
Wishing my condition ain't ever gonna go away
Cause now I'm knee deep in the water somewhere
Got the blue sky breeze blowing wind through my hair
Only worry in the world is the tide gonna reach my chair
